| The purpose of the Doctoral Programme of IPMG is to train prospective
scholars to become highly skilled and innovative researchers and teachers
in various aspects of management related to the energy sector. It
primarily aims at preparing students for careers as faculty members
at premier academic institutions.
Course Structure
The Doctoral Programme would normally demand four years of full-time
requirements in two stages. In the first stage, the selected candidate
needs to meet the course requirements over two years. The first
year course requirements can be waived in certain cases and on a
selective basis. During this stage, the student is given appropriate
exposure to the basic discipline of management, thus preparing him/her
for the thesis work in the next stage. The course work that will
be undertaken by the student in the first year will be from among
those courses that are offered to the PGP students, and in the second
year will include specially designed courses. Each student is placed
under the guidance of a Faculty Advisory Committee after considering
his or her field of interest.
On successful completion of the course requirement, the student
has to qualify in two comprehensive examinations (one written and
another oral) before taking up the thesis work.
The thesis stage is normally of two years.
Fellowship
Fellow students are awarded a fellowship of Rs.15,000/- per month,
and no fees (admission, tuition, course material, computer, or library)
will be charged. Fellowship will be paid only to fulltime residential
students for a maximum period of four years, which may be extended
by six months on the recommendation of the thesis adviser. After
comprehensive a student may be allowed to provide limited Research
and Teaching Assistance (RTA), which will be remunerated.
A fellow student is entitled to a contingency grant of Rs.10,000
per annum during the first two years and a grant of Rs.20,000 per
annum during the third and fourth years.
Conferences and International Exposure
The Institute provides support for attending National and International
conferences. A fellow student will be reimbursed all related expenses
up to Rs. 1,00,000 during the entire duration of the program.
Selection Procedure
Candidates who satisfy the eligibility criteria as prescribed by
the Institute will be called for a test / interview. Selection will
be based on the previous academic performance and marks secured
in the test / interview.
Minimum Academic Qualifications Required for
Admission
Master's degree in Management/Engineering/Sciences/Social Sciences/Commerce
and Humanities subjects with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks
or equivalent (CGPA 6.5 ) or a Bacheolor’s Degree in Engineering
with a first class and adequate work experience with a valid CAT/GMAT
score.
Admission of PGDM (Oil & Gas)
Candidates who have qualified for the award of PGDM (Oil & Gas)
with exceptionally good academic record in the prescribed disciplines
will be considered for direct admission to doctoral program subject
to the following conditions :
• If the Candidate happens to be a PGDM diploma holder from
IPMG, he/she should have
qualified for the diploma in the top 25%.
• In the case of MBA’s or PGDM diploma holders with
specialization in Oil and Gas or Energy
from an University or deemed University, he/she should
have qualified for the degree
among the top 10 rank holders of the University.
• Full-time candidates alone are eligible to be considered
for such direct admission.
Admission of International Students
Candidates of foreign nationality holding Degrees from Indian Universities
seeking admission to doctoral program need the necessary clearance
from the Government of India in the Ministry of Human Resource Development
and should possess valid Research Visa. They will be treated on
par with Indian nationals for purposes of admission to the Institute.
Candidates of foreign nationality with Degrees from Foreign Universities
seeking admission to the Institute will be treated differently and
the case of each candidate will be examined and decided purely on
merit. They should fulfill the eligible qualification requirement
as applicable to regular students in addition to GMAT and TOEFL
requirements.
International students will be eligible for tuition waiver. However
they will not be eligible for fellowship, contingency grant or reimbursement
of expenses for participating in conferences.
Instructions for Completing Application Form
The following documents are to be sent along with the completed
application form
(available
online) :
• Copy of SSLC / 10th class or Matriculation certificate.
• Attested copies of all Mark sheets / grade cards, degree
certificates beginning from first
degree towards proof of qualification. Original certificates
should not enclosed
• Employer's Certificate in the prescribed format in the case
of candidates applying for the
doctoral program under external scheme and a copy of the
degree certificate of Research
Coordinator.
Applications received without the above certificates for admission
to the doctoral program will not be considered and no correspondence
thereof will be entertained.
Completed applications in all respects with "Admission to
Doctoral Programme" inscribed on the cover should be sent by
